A Bicycle Lock Is A Must Have

It only has to happen once. You step away from your bike because you needed to stop in that coffee shop for a double latte espresso mocha whatever, come out of the shop and your bike is GONE!!! Not exactly my situation because my bike was stolen while I was at school and truth be told, it was locked. So, I say this. A bicycle lock is a must have but if you are going to get a bicycle lock, get a quality one. I came out to find my lock cut and in two pieces on the ground.

Maybe I should have just thrown as many locks on it as I could.

Why was my bike taken when others around mine could just have easily have been stolen?

Did I forget to lock my bike?

Was someone out to get me?

Those are the questions that crossed my mind. But then reality stared me in the face.

My bicycle lock (in two pieces now) was cheap and the locks holding the bikes on to the same bike rack as mine were superior in every way. Actually I have to have an argument with myself here. There is a difference between cheap and inexpensive and although my bike lock was both, you can buy a quality bicycle lock that is relatively inexpensive.

I had a cheap combination bicycle lock and if it wasn't cut, it could have been easily opened just as they show in this video.

Not all combination locks have to be cheap. Here is an example of a quality albeit not inexpensive combination bicycle lock.

Now although there are some that say that a thief will find any way to take your bike or that those who steal only carry one specialized tool... so put two locks on your bike, this just isn't logical. Lets just make sure that we secure our bike properly and get a superior bicycle lock that not only isn't bulky but can be stylish at the same time.

We ride our bikes for exercise and fun, so living in fear that it might be stolen would take away that fun of hopping on our bike so we can just go for a ride and perhaps leave it out of site for a few minutes. However, we need to be honest with ourselves and protect our investment. So, lets buy a quality bicycle lock and get it done right the first time.

So what bicycle lock do I use? My personal favorite is the Kyrptonite. They come in a few different models and I've personally never had a problem with Kryptonite. My lock allows me to actually wrap around two bikes and then the key easily stores in the saddle bag along with my other goodies. Check out the reviews, because when you buy a Kryptonite bike lock, you are buying quality.

Whenever I go looking for bike related products, I stop and do my research at Magnetic Trainer and then head on over to Amazon to check out reviews of products. Sure, I can always shop at my local bike store and still do from time to time but in regards to pricing and the amount of products that Amazon carries, they are very hard to beat. So, head on over to Amazon if you are in the market for your next (and hopefully last) bicycle lock.
