Are There Cheap Bicycle Trainers?
It all depends what your definition of cheap bicycle trainers or inexpensive means when it comes to an indoor bicycle trainer. If it is bottom line price, you should most likely be looking at a wind trainer. Realize that you will miss out on some of the more progressive resistance features that are offered on some models and you will have a nice loud hum with a wind trainer. However, you will find that there are a few models that are under $100. My first indoor bike trainer was a wind trainer and I have and still use it today. I bought it 20+ years ago for about $70. The company that made that model is no longer in existence but from time to time the Aosom shows up on Amazon and looks to be a near exact duplicate of what I sometimes ride and at a price comparable to what I paid quite a while ago.

Going up one step, you'll also find some magnetic trainers (mag trainer) below $100 as well. Check out the Bell Motivator Mag. When talking about cheap bicycle trainers, to me the Bell Motivator Mag is the cream of the crop. It got really good overall reviews and is the number 1 selling bicycle trainer on Amazon. I highly recommend either putting in a cycle DVD or throwing on that mp3 player when riding these trainers and you may want to look into another back wheel. However, if you are looking to stay in shape during the off season or on that rainy/snowy/windy day, one of these cheap bicycle trainers should be just what you are looking for.

Here's the deal. When the weather gets bad and I feel like riding indoors, I've already got a bike that I almost always use strictly indoors. Yes, I have an indoor and an outdoor bike, kinda like some folks have their outdoor bike and an exercise bike that they ride indoors. So, I take my old Trek and grab one of the cheap bicycle trainers and I can be riding in a matter of 2 minutes.
I always recommend going through Amazon when looking at products because you can find plenty of reviews, both good and bad. Don't always pick the least expensive product or buy the most expensive believing it has to be the best. Again, make sure to check the reviews.
