What Is The Best Bicycle Trainer Under $200?

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post regarding the best bicycle trainer under $100. Moving up to the $200 price point opens up plenty of possibilities. In general we move from the wind trainer category into magnetic trainers. We still are a little bit short of hitting the fluid trainer category or the rim drive trainers but I guarantee that you will find some great trainers here under $200.

First of all, you end up looking at more trainers with brand names. You will see CycleOps and Kurt Kinetic here. Bicycle trainers that are seen as some of the best buys in the industry with consumer reviews to prove it. You also may see some bike trainers below $100 or above $200. The nature of the business is that Amazon sometimes has fantastic discounts where its not unheard of to see 20%, 30%, and more off of retail price depending on the model.

For the purpose of the article, we will leave off roller trainers. You can find many roller trainers under $200 over at Amazon.

As a general statement and recap:

The quality of bike trainers in general from low to high usually goes in this order:
Wind Trainer - Tends to be noisy. Least road like feel.
Magnetic Trainer - Good overall choice. Adequate resistance and not as much noise as a wind trainer.
Fluid Trainer - Most road like feel, best resistance, least noisy.

To answer your question, I believe the best bicycle trainer under $200 is the CycleOps Mag Indoor Bicycle Trainer With Bar Mounted Remote Shifter. Normally you would see that I like the trainers that have a handlebar shift remote and with this group it is no exception. Reason being because you don't have to get off the bike trainer to change the resistance on the unit. The CycleOps Mag Trainer has 5 adjustment settings that can be changed on the fly (as you ride).
