So what does a body fat analyzer have to do with riding an indoor bike trainer? Well, from my perspective... plenty. You see, rather than hopping on your indoor trainer on a daily basis to get in that 30 minute or hour long ride, wouldn't it be nice to know if those rides are being productive? What I'm getting at is that there are those that assume since they are working out and keeping active, that they are either getting in shape or staying in shape. But what if you are packing on the calories and gaining bodyfat instead of muscle? What if you are in a calorie deficit and instead of losing bodyfat, you are losing muscle?
No need to wonder any longer if you have the Tanita BC554 Ironman Glass InnerScan Body Composition Monitor.
- Weight
Body Fat Percentage
Body Water Percentage
Metabolic Age
Bone Mass
Physique Rating
All you need to do is to grab plop the included batteries into the Tanita BC5554 and go through the setup with your gender, age, height and weight. Then, step on the scale and let it do the work for you. This scale is what is known as a body composition monitor. It will display your weight, body fat percentage, muscle mass, body water percentage, basal metabolic rate, bone mass, metabolic rate, and a physique rating.
So what are users saying?
"Great scale--shows real changes in physique over time"
"I love this scale and all the data it gives"
"It helps me to determine all aspects of my weight, not just overall weight"
"We use it to monitor body fat and weight. It is extremely accurate compared with the monitoring machines we use at the gym. The cost of the fat analysis at the gym was $15 per person. We can get the numbers from the privacy of our home and save time and money"
"it's attractive, functional and sturdy"
"I enjoyed it so much that when my daughter needed a scale I bought her one"
"Shows how many calories are need to maintain current weight"
"This is an excellent tool for any serious athlete checking their body composition (weight, fat%, muscle, etc)"
There are some negatives however. Some say that they have seen discrepancies on a daily basis between their bodyfat percentage or weight. Others have said that they have had issues with the LCD monitor. However some of the complaints were almost laughable.
Yes, you should place the scale on an even flat surface. Make sure you set it up properly. Do not set it up telling the scale that you are a male athlete if you are not. Also, weigh yourself at the same time of the day and follow the instructions. If not, you will receive inconsistent results. Some of this is common sense but the manual should be read before operating.
The Tanita BC554 Ironman Glass InnerScan Body Composition Monitor should be seen as one more additional tool to monitor your progress through your workouts. I use a Tanita at home and have watched my body fat percentage go down while my weight has remained relatively constant (within about 2-3 pounds up and down over the past year). I make sure to not eat meals right before hopping on the scale and I except for maybe checking on my weight, I don't use it first thing in the morning. The nice thing is that this scale allows 4 different users to set up their profiles. My wife uses the same scale and just pushes another button that keeps her stored profile.
I highly recommend the Tanita BC554 and I'm not just saying that. For those that do not have access to a gym where you can check your weight and body fat composition, this scale lets you keep track of your progress from the comfort of your own home.
